2011-2012 Doug and Grace Loughlin Scholarship Winner: Noama Iftekhar

Noama will be attending the University of California at Berkley. She hopes to be a doctor or a biomedical engineer. Her academic and career choices were influenced in part by contending with asthma and allergic reactions to medications.
When her medical conditions forced her to abandon competitive swimming, Noama looked for other competitive outlets. She began playing tennis her freshman year of high school. Within three years she was a state ranked player.

Noama has served as a conflict manager at a middle school and is a volunteer teen hotline counselor. As a member of the Santa Clara Youth Commission she provides leadership and encouragement to increase the physical activity of youths. Noama has traveled to Pakistan where she served as a play therapist for children with cancer.
