Share Your College Cost Priorities with the New Congress
Monday, January 22nd, 2007The aftershock of November’s political earthquake is still reverberating, probably nowhere more than in higher education, which can expect to be treated with a greater sense of priority by the new Democratic majority in Congress. The next two years are a window of opportunity for College Parents of America, a time when the odds improve for us to realize our goal to make college more attainable for all Americans. The three principal ways that the federal government can put college within more reasonable reach are by: 1) placing more dollars into grant aid, in particular by raising the maximum level for a Pell Grant; 2) making the federal student loan program more family-friendly by, for example, increasing limits on federal student loans and increasing subsidies directed toward both student and parent loans; and 3) reinstating the now-expired ability for families to deduct a portion of higher-education-related expenses. Tell us your priorities today as we are currently packaging them for delivery to members of the U.S. House and Senate. Advocacy is a key component of our mission to empower you to best support your children on the path to and through college. Let your voice be heard in the Nation’s Capital and read by your fellow parents around the country. Click here to leave a comment.
