James A. Boyle, President

Prior to becoming President of College Parents of America in September 2003, Jim Boyle served as Vice President of Brand Marketing and Corporate Communications for Sallie Mae, the nation's largest provider of higher education financing.

A veteran of the media and financial services industries, Jim previously held executive marketing and communications positions at WorldGate, Discovery Communications, Inc. and NBC. He began his career in Washington, DC as a press secretary on Capitol Hill, followed by a stint at the National Cable Television Association.

A native of the Detroit area, Jim and his sister, Pam, were members of the first generation in his family to attend college. Through a combination of support from Pell Grants, institutional aid, a National Merit Scholarship, work-study and federal student loans, Jim received his B.S. in Communication Studies from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Mark S. Jacobs, Executive Vice President

With over 22 years of education finance experience, Mark Jacobs brings to College Parents of America a wealth of knowledge in the areas of student lending (federal and private) and scholarships. Prior to joining College Parents of America, Mark was Vice President of Business Development for Goal Financial (one of the nation’s largest holders of federally insured student loans). Previously he held executive and senior management positions with Sallie Mae, USA Group, and Student Trust.

Mark received his Masters in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University and his undergraduate degree from Indiana University at Indianapolis. The first member of his family to receive a college degree, he is especially proud to now be a college parent. Mark’s daughter, Nicole, is currently a student at Northern Virginia Community College.

Christal Karnaze, Communications Director

Prior to joining the College Parents of America management team, Ms. Karnaze, as an account supervisor for Edelman Public Relations and an account manager for Fleishman-Hilliard Public Relations, created and executed consumer public relations programs for clients such as PBS, Ralston-Purina, Anheuser-Busch and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of St. Louis.

Most recently, Ms.Karnaze served as the Director of the Washington, D.C. Library Renaissance Project where she was responsible for a district-wide grassroots effort to expose the plight of the city's library system and to protect the libraries from systemic annual budgets cuts.

Ms. Karnaze hold a dual B.A. in Communications and Journalism from California State University at Northridge.

Kellie Malloy, Executive Editor

A former public relations, advertising and political consultant, Kellie Malloy has developed communications plans and materials for public and private sector clients in the education, computer, health care, entertainment, telecommunications and hospitality fields. She has advised several political organizations and candidates and has worked as a freelance journalist for both trade and consumer publications.

As Executive Editor at College Parents of America, Kellie applies her marketing, research and editorial skills to creating content for the association's Web site and e-newsletters, as well as for its printed materials. Kellie is a graduate of the University of Delaware, where she studied political science and public relations.
