Are 529 Plans About to Become Less Risky?

More safety features could be on the way for 529 college savings plans.

On April 20, the House of Representatives passed the Deposit Restricted Qualified Tuition Programs Act of 2009, which would allow families to invest money for college in an account that's within a 529 plan but also insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
